Abstract
This thesis aims to investigate the impact of police body-worn cameras (BWCs) on use of force incidents from a criminological perspective. The use of BWCs in law enforcement has become increasingly prevalent in recent years, with proponents arguing that these devices can enhance transparency, accountability, and trust between police officers and the communities they serve. However, the effectiveness of BWCs in reducing use of force incidents remains a topic of debate among scholars, practitioners, and policymakers. Chapter One provides an introduction to the study, presenting the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definitions of key terms. The introduction sets the stage for the research by highlighting the importance of examining the relationship between BWCs and use of force incidents in the context of criminology. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review that synthesizes existing research on BWCs and their impact on policing practices, use of force incidents, officer behavior, community perceptions, and legal considerations. This chapter critically evaluates the strengths and limitations of previous studies, identifies gaps in the literature, and provides a theoretical framework for the current research. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology employed in this study, including the research design, data collection methods, sampling strategy, data analysis techniques, and ethical considerations.
