Abstract
This thesis investigates the impact of body-worn cameras on police accountability and public trust in law enforcement. The use of body-worn cameras by police officers has become increasingly prevalent in recent years as a tool for enhancing transparency and accountability in policing practices. This study aims to critically evaluate the effectiveness of body-worn cameras in improving police accountability and public trust, as well as to explore the challenges and limitations associated with their implementation. The research begins by providing an overview of the background and context surrounding the use of body-worn cameras in law enforcement. It highlights the growing public concern over police misconduct and the need for increased transparency in police-citizen interactions. The problem statement emphasizes the importance of understanding how body-worn cameras can influence accountability and trust within communities. The objectives of this study include examining the impact of body-worn cameras on police behavior and decision-making, assessing the perceptions of both police officers and community members regarding the use of these devices, and identifying best practices for maximizing the benefits of body-worn cameras in promoting accountability and trust.
