Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This research study explores the impact of hands-on learning activities on student engagement and understanding in high school biology classes. The use of hands-on learning activities has been increasingly recognized as an effective pedagogical approach to enhance student learning outcomes and foster deeper understanding of scientific concepts. The study aims to investigate how the incorporation of hands-on activities in biology education can improve student engagement, motivation, and comprehension of complex biological concepts. The research methodology employed in this study includes a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather data from high school biology students and teachers. A total of 200 students and 20 teachers from various high schools will be recruited to participate in the study. The data collected will be analyzed using statistical tools and thematic analysis to identify patterns, themes, and correlations related to student engagement and understanding in biology classes. The literature review provides a comprehensive overview of previous research on hands-on learning activities in biology education, highlighting the benefits of experiential learning in enhancing student motivation, retention, and critical thinking skills. The review also discusses the challenges and limitations associated with implementing hands-on activities in high school biology classes. The findings of the study reveal that hands-on learning activities have a significant positive impact on student engagement and understanding in high school biology classes. Students who participated in hands-on activities demonstrated higher levels of motivation, interest, and knowledge retention compared to those in traditional lecture-based classes. Teachers reported that hands-on activities promoted active learning, collaboration, and problem-solving skills among students. The discussion of findings delves into the implications of the study results for biology educators, curriculum designers, and policymakers. Recommendations for integrating hands-on learning activities into the biology curriculum are provided to enhance student learning experiences and promote a deeper understanding of biological concepts. In conclusion, this research study contributes to the growing body of literature on innovative teaching strategies in biology education. The findings highlight the importance of incorporating hands-on learning activities to improve student engagement and comprehension in high school biology classes. By promoting active learning and experiential opportunities, educators can create a more stimulating and effective learning environment for students to develop critical thinking skills and a passion for science.
