Thesis Abstract
Abstract
Cancer is a complex and multifaceted disease characterized by uncontrolled cell growth and proliferation. One of the key mechanisms contributing to cancer development and progression is the dysregulation of gene expression. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that play a crucial role in post-transcriptional regulation of gene expression. In recent years, there has been growing interest in understanding how specific miRNAs are involved in regulating gene expression in cancer cells. This thesis aims to investigate the role of specific miRNAs in regulating gene expression in cancer cells. The study will focus on identifying key miRNAs that are dysregulated in various types of cancer and elucidating their impact on the expression of target genes. By exploring the interactions between miRNAs and target genes, this research seeks to uncover potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets for cancer treatment. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research topic, background information on miRNAs and cancer, the problem statement, objectives of the study, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of terms. Chapter 2 presents a comprehensive literature review covering ten key aspects related to miRNAs, gene expression regulation, and cancer biology. Chapter 3 outlines the research methodology, including the study design, sample collection, miRNA profiling techniques, bioinformatics analysis, and statistical methods. This chapter also discusses the ethical considerations and potential challenges in conducting the research. In Chapter 4, the findings of the study are discussed in detail. This includes the identification of dysregulated miRNAs in cancer cells, the validation of miRNA-target gene interactions, and the functional implications of these interactions on cancer cell behavior. The chapter also explores the potential clinical applications of the research findings. Finally, Chapter 5 presents the conclusion and summary of the thesis, highlighting the key findings, implications for cancer research and treatment, and recommendations for future studies. Overall, this research contributes to our understanding of the role of specific miRNAs in regulating gene expression in cancer cells and provides valuable insights into potential therapeutic strategies for combating cancer.
