Thesis Abstract

Abstract
MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are small non-coding RNAs that play crucial roles in regulating gene expression at the post-transcriptional level. Dysregulation of miRNAs has been implicated in various diseases, including cancer. In this study, we investigated the role of miRNAs in regulating gene expression in cancer cells, with a focus on understanding how these small RNAs contribute to the development and progression of cancer. The first part of the study involved a comprehensive literature review to establish the current understanding of miRNA involvement in cancer. Ten key aspects were identified and analyzed, providing a solid foundation for the subsequent experimental work. The review highlighted the diverse roles of miRNAs in cancer, from acting as oncogenes to tumor suppressors, and their potential as diagnostic and prognostic markers. In the research methodology section, we outlined our experimental approach to investigate the specific miRNAs involved in regulating gene expression in cancer cells. This involved cell culture techniques, molecular biology assays, and bioinformatics analysis to identify miRNA targets and their downstream effects. The methodology also included the validation of miRNA-mRNA interactions using advanced molecular techniques. The findings from our study revealed a complex network of miRNA-gene interactions that influence key pathways involved in cancer development. We identified specific miRNAs that were dysregulated in cancer cells compared to normal cells, and characterized their impact on gene expression profiles. Our results shed light on the intricate regulatory mechanisms involving miRNAs in cancer, providing insights into potential therapeutic targets for intervention. In the discussion of our findings, we delved into the implications of our results in the context of cancer biology and precision medicine.
