Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Oxidative stress, a condition characterized by an imbalance between the production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the antioxidant defense system in cells, has been implicated in the pathogenesis of various diseases. Antioxidants have been shown to play a crucial role in mitigating oxidative stress by scavenging free radicals and preventing cellular damage. This research project aimed to investigate the effects of different antioxidants on oxidative stress in human cells. The study was conducted using human cell lines exposed to oxidative stress inducers, and the impact of various antioxidants on cellular oxidative stress levels was assessed. The antioxidants tested included vitamin C, vitamin E, glutathione, and resveratrol, among others. Cellular oxidative stress was evaluated using biochemical assays, such as measurement of ROS levels, lipid peroxidation, and antioxidant enzyme activities. The results of the study revealed that different antioxidants exerted varying effects on oxidative stress in human cells. Some antioxidants demonstrated potent scavenging activity against ROS, while others showed a more moderate effect. Additionally, certain antioxidants were found to enhance the activity of endogenous antioxidant enzymes, further contributing to cellular protection against oxidative damage. Furthermore, the study highlighted the importance of antioxidant synergy, as combinations of antioxidants exhibited a more pronounced protective effect compared to individual antioxidants. The findings suggest that a multi-antioxidant approach may be more effective in combating oxidative stress and reducing cellular damage. In conclusion, this research project provides valuable insights into the effects of different antioxidants on oxidative stress in human cells. The results underscore the potential therapeutic benefits of antioxidants in mitigating oxidative damage and preserving cellular health. Future research endeavors could explore the development of antioxidant-based therapies for the prevention and treatment of oxidative stress-related diseases.

Thesis Overview

The project titled "Investigating the effects of different antioxidants on oxidative stress in human cells" aims to explore the impact of various antioxidants on oxidative stress in human cells. Oxidative stress occurs when there is an imbalance between the production of harmful reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the ability of cells to detoxify them. This imbalance can lead to damage to cell structures and biomolecules, contributing to various diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders. Antioxidants are compounds that can neutralize ROS and protect cells from oxidative damage. By studying the effects of different antioxidants on oxidative stress, this research seeks to identify potential therapeutic strategies for combating oxidative stress-related diseases. The project will involve conducting in vitro experiments using human cell lines exposed to oxidative stress inducers and various antioxidants. The research will begin with a comprehensive literature review to examine the current understanding of oxidative stress, antioxidants, and their implications for human health. Subsequently, a detailed methodology will be outlined, including the cell culture techniques, oxidative stress induction protocols, and antioxidant treatment procedures. The experimental phase will involve assessing the levels of ROS, antioxidant enzyme activities, and cellular damage in response to different antioxidant treatments. Data analysis will be conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of each antioxidant in mitigating oxidative stress and protecting human cells. The findings from this research are expected to provide valuable insights into the mechanisms underlying antioxidant protection against oxidative stress in human cells. Moreover, the results may have implications for the development of antioxidant-based therapies for oxidative stress-related diseases. Ultimately, this project aims to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on the role of antioxidants in cellular protection and disease prevention.
