Cancer continues to be a major global health challenge, with the need for innovative approaches in understanding its development and treatment. Epigenetics, the study of heritable changes in gene expression that are not caused by alterations in the DNA sequence, has emerged as a critical field in cancer research. This thesis explores the role of epigenetics in cancer development and treatment, aiming to provide a comprehensive understanding of how epigenetic mechanisms contribute to oncogenesis and how they can be targeted for therapeutic purposes. The introductory chapter sets the stage by providing an overview of the research problem, the background of the study, the problem statement, the objectives of the study, the limitations, the scope, the significance of the study, the structure of the thesis, and the definition of key terms. Chapter two presents a thorough literature review covering ten key aspects of the role of epigenetics in cancer, including DNA methylation, histone modifications, non-coding RNAs, chromatin remodeling, and epigenetic therapies.
