Thesis Abstract
The abstract is as follows Value Added Tax (VAT) is a consumption tax levied on the value added to goods and services at each stage of production and distribution. This research project investigates the effects of Value Added Tax (VAT) on the Nigerian economy. The study aims to analyze the impact of VAT on various economic indicators such as consumption, investment, government revenue, and overall economic growth. Using a case study approach, data will be collected from the Nigerian economy to examine the relationship between VAT implementation and economic performance. The research will utilize statistical analysis techniques to assess the correlation between VAT rates and key economic variables. Additionally, qualitative methods such as interviews with tax experts and policymakers will be conducted to gather insights into the practical implications of VAT on businesses and consumers in Nigeria. The findings of this study are expected to contribute to the existing literature on the effects of VAT on developing economies, particularly in the context of Nigeria. By examining the specific case of Nigeria, this research will provide valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with VAT implementation in a developing country setting. The results of the study can inform policymakers and stakeholders about the potential benefits and drawbacks of VAT and guide future tax policy decisions in Nigeria and other similar economies. Overall, this research project seeks to deepen our understanding of the impact of VAT on the Nigerian economy and contribute to the ongoing policy discussions surrounding tax reform and economic development in the country. The findings of the study may have implications for other developing countries considering the adoption or modification of VAT systems. By shedding light on the relationship between VAT and economic performance, this research aims to provide valuable insights that can inform evidence-based policymaking and promote sustainable economic growth in Nigeria and beyond.
