Investigating the effects of different weaning strategies on stress levels in piglets

The weaning process is a critical period in the life of piglets, as it involves the transition from a liquid milk diet to solid feed. This transition can be stressful for piglets, leading to negative impacts on their health and overall well-being. This study aims to investigate the effects of different weaning strategies on stress levels in piglets. Specifically, it will compare the traditional abrupt weaning method with a gradual weaning approach, where piglets are gradually introduced to solid feed while still having access to sow's milk. The study will assess stress levels by measuring cortisol levels, behavioral indicators, and growth performance. The findings of this research will provide valuable insights into the impact of weaning strategies on piglet welfare and may contribute to the development of more effective and less stressful weaning practices in pig farming.
