Assessing the impact of different flooring systems on joint health in horses

Thesis Abstract

This research project aims to investigate the impact of different flooring systems on joint health in horses. The type of flooring in equine facilities can significantly affect the musculoskeletal health of horses, particularly their joints. The study will assess various flooring materials commonly used in horse stables and arenas, including concrete, rubber mats, and natural materials such as wood shavings or straw. The research will involve evaluating the biomechanical forces exerted on the joints during different activities, such as walking, trotting, and jumping, on each type of flooring. Additionally, the project will analyze the influence of flooring systems on joint stress, impact absorption, and the development of joint-related disorders. The findings of this study will provide valuable insights into the selection and design of flooring systems that promote optimal joint health and overall well-being in horses.
