Abstract
This thesis explores the potential of technology in enhancing adult literacy programs. The increasing integration of technology in education has sparked interest in its application to adult learning, particularly in the context of literacy programs. The aim of this study is to investigate how technology can be effectively utilized to support and improve adult literacy initiatives. The research is guided by the following objectives to examine the current state of adult literacy programs, to identify the challenges faced in adult literacy education, to explore the various technologies available for literacy enhancement, to evaluate the impact of technology on adult literacy outcomes, and to propose recommendations for integrating technology into adult literacy programs. Chapter One provides an introduction to the study, discussing the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review, covering ten key areas related to technology and adult literacy programs. The review discusses the current literature on adult literacy education, the role of technology in education, digital literacy skills, online learning platforms, mobile applications for literacy, adaptive learning technologies, and the effectiveness of technology-enhanced literacy programs. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology employed in this study, including the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, data analysis procedures, and ethical considerations. The chapter also discusses the theoretical framework guiding the research and the rationale behind the chosen methodology. Chapter Four presents a detailed discussion of the findings, analyzing the impact of technology on adult literacy programs based on the data collected.
