Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common degenerative joint disease affecting dogs, leading to pain, stiffness, and decreased mobility. Current treatment options for canine OA are limited and often focus on managing symptoms rather than addressing the underlying cause. This research project aims to explore the potential use of stem cell therapy as a novel and promising treatment modality for canine OA. Stem cell therapy offers a regenerative approach by harnessing the regenerative potential of stem cells to repair and regenerate damaged joint tissues, thereby addressing the root cause of OA. The literature review conducted in this study provides a comprehensive overview of the current understanding of OA in dogs, including its pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and available treatment options. The review also highlights the emerging field of stem cell therapy and its applications in veterinary medicine, particularly in the treatment of musculoskeletal disorders such as OA. By examining the existing research and clinical studies on stem cell therapy for OA in dogs, this study aims to identify gaps in knowledge and potential areas for further research. The research methodology section outlines the experimental design and methodology employed in this study. This includes the selection and isolation of stem cells, in vitro expansion and characterization of stem cells, and in vivo administration of stem cells in a canine OA model. Various outcome measures, such as pain scores, joint mobility assessments, and histological analyses, are utilized to evaluate the efficacy of stem cell therapy in treating canine OA. The discussion of findings section presents the results obtained from the experimental study and provides a critical analysis of the outcomes. The findings indicate that stem cell therapy shows promising results in improving clinical symptoms, promoting joint repair, and enhancing overall joint function in dogs with OA. Furthermore, the study highlights the safety and feasibility of stem cell therapy as a potential treatment option for canine OA. In conclusion, this research project demonstrates the potential of stem cell therapy as an innovative and effective treatment approach for canine OA. The findings suggest that stem cell therapy holds great promise in addressing the underlying pathology of OA and promoting joint regeneration in dogs. This study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the use of stem cell therapy in veterinary medicine and underscores the importance of further research in this field to advance the treatment of OA in dogs.

Thesis Overview

The research project titled "Exploring the Use of Stem Cell Therapy in Treating Canine Osteoarthritis" aims to investigate the potential benefits and effectiveness of utilizing stem cell therapy as a treatment option for osteoarthritis in dogs. Osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disease in canines, characterized by progressive cartilage degradation, inflammation, and pain, leading to impaired mobility and reduced quality of life for affected animals. Traditional treatments for osteoarthritis in dogs primarily focus on managing symptoms rather than addressing the underlying cause of the disease. Stem cell therapy holds promise as a regenerative medicine approach that may help repair damaged cartilage, reduce inflammation, and promote tissue regeneration in arthritic joints. By utilizing the regenerative properties of stem cells, this therapy has the potential to provide long-term relief and improve joint function in dogs with osteoarthritis. However, despite the growing interest in stem cell therapy for veterinary applications, there is still a need for comprehensive research to evaluate its safety, efficacy, and long-term outcomes specifically for treating osteoarthritis in canines. This research project will involve a thorough investigation into the mechanisms of action of stem cell therapy in the context of osteoarthritis, including its anti-inflammatory and tissue regenerative properties. The study will also explore the different sources of stem cells that can be used for therapy, such as adipose tissue-derived stem cells, bone marrow-derived stem cells, or umbilical cord-derived stem cells, to determine the most effective and feasible option for canine patients. Furthermore, the project will involve conducting in vitro and in vivo experiments to assess the therapeutic potential of stem cell therapy in a canine osteoarthritis model. This will include evaluating the impact of stem cell treatment on cartilage regeneration, inflammation reduction, pain relief, and overall joint function in affected dogs. The research will also investigate factors such as optimal dosing, delivery methods, and potential risks associated with stem cell therapy in a veterinary clinical setting. Overall, this research aims to contribute to the growing body of knowledge on stem cell therapy for veterinary applications and provide valuable insights into its potential as a novel treatment approach for canine osteoarthritis. By elucidating the mechanisms of action and therapeutic benefits of stem cell therapy in this context, this study seeks to advance the field of veterinary regenerative medicine and ultimately improve the quality of life for dogs suffering from osteoarthritis.
