Abstract
Osteoarthritis is a common degenerative joint disease affecting both humans and animals, including dogs. Traditional treatment modalities for osteoarthritis in dogs have limitations in providing long-term relief and addressing the underlying causes of the disease. Stem cell therapy has emerged as a promising alternative for managing osteoarthritis by promoting tissue repair and regeneration. This thesis aims to explore the use of stem cell therapy in treating osteoarthritis in dogs, focusing on the efficacy, safety, and long-term outcomes of this novel treatment approach. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, discussing the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. The introduction sets the stage for understanding the rationale behind investigating stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis in dogs. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review on the topic, covering ten key areas related to osteoarthritis pathophysiology, current treatment modalities, mechanisms of action of stem cell therapy, previous studies on stem cell therapy in veterinary medicine, and ethical considerations. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology employed in this study, including the research design, sample selection criteria, stem cell sources, administration techniques, outcome measures, data collection methods, and statistical analysis procedures.
