Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Stem cell therapy has emerged as a promising approach in veterinary medicine for the treatment of various diseases, including osteoarthritis in dogs. Osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that affects a significant number of canines, leading to pain, lameness, and reduced quality of life. This research project aimed to investigate the efficacy and safety of stem cell therapy in the treatment of osteoarthritis in dogs. The study involved a comprehensive literature review, research methodology development, data collection, analysis of findings, and discussion of results. The literature review conducted in this study explored existing research on stem cell therapy for osteoarthritis in dogs. It provided insights into the mechanisms of action of stem cells, the types of stem cells used, the routes of administration, and the outcomes reported in previous studies. The review highlighted the potential benefits of stem cell therapy, such as cartilage regeneration, anti-inflammatory effects, and pain relief in dogs with osteoarthritis. The research methodology section outlined the design of the study, including the selection of canine participants, stem cell isolation and characterization, treatment protocols, outcome measures, and data analysis methods. The study involved the recruitment of dogs diagnosed with osteoarthritis, the collection of adipose tissue for stem cell isolation, the administration of stem cell therapy, and the evaluation of clinical and radiographic outcomes over a specified period. The findings of the study demonstrated promising results regarding the use of stem cell therapy in the treatment of osteoarthritis in dogs. Significant improvements were observed in lameness scores, pain levels, joint mobility, and overall quality of life in the treated dogs compared to the control group. Radiographic assessments also revealed evidence of cartilage regeneration and joint repair following stem cell therapy. The discussion of findings delved into the implications of the study results, including the potential of stem cell therapy as a regenerative treatment option for osteoarthritis in dogs. The safety profile of stem cell therapy, the optimal dosage and administration routes, and the long-term effects of treatment were also discussed. Recommendations for further research and clinical applications of stem cell therapy in veterinary practice were provided based on the study outcomes. In conclusion, this research project contributes valuable insights into the use of stem cell therapy for the treatment of osteoarthritis in dogs. The findings support the efficacy and safety of stem cell therapy as a promising alternative or adjunctive treatment for canine osteoarthritis. Further research and clinical trials are warranted to validate these findings and optimize the use of stem cell therapy in veterinary medicine.
