Abstract
This thesis examines the impact of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) on urban mobility and accessibility. TOD is a planning approach that focuses on creating compact, mixed-use developments around transit stations to promote sustainable transportation and improve overall urban quality of life. The study aims to assess the effectiveness of TOD in enhancing urban mobility and accessibility, with a specific focus on its implications for reducing car dependency, improving public transit ridership, and fostering walkability and bikeability within urban areas. The research methodology employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative analysis of transportation data, spatial analysis of land use patterns, and qualitative assessment through surveys and interviews with stakeholders involved in TOD projects. The study was conducted in a diverse range of urban settings to capture the varied impacts of TOD on different urban contexts and populations. The findings reveal that TOD has a significant positive impact on urban mobility and accessibility. It has been successful in reducing car dependency by providing residents with convenient access to public transit options, walking and biking infrastructure, and a variety of services and amenities within walking distance.
