Abstract
Transit-oriented development (TOD) has emerged as a sustainable urban planning approach to address the challenges of urban mobility and accessibility. This research project aims to assess the impact of TOD on urban mobility and accessibility within the context of urban and regional planning. The study explores how the principles of TOD can influence transportation patterns, land use, and urban design to create more efficient, accessible, and sustainable urban environments. The research begins with a comprehensive review of the literature on transit-oriented development, urban mobility, and accessibility. This review provides a theoretical foundation for understanding the key concepts and principles that underpin TOD and its potential impacts on urban areas. The study then moves on to a detailed examination of the research methodology, including data collection methods, sampling techniques, and analytical tools used to evaluate the impact of TOD on urban mobility and accessibility. Through a combination of quantitative and qualitative research methods, the study investigates the effects of TOD on transportation modes, travel behavior, land use patterns, and urban form. Data analysis techniques such as regression analysis, spatial analysis, and case studies are employed to assess the relationships between TOD and urban mobility outcomes. The findings of the research provide insights into the effectiveness of TOD in promoting sustainable transportation modes, reducing car dependency, and improving accessibility for all residents. The discussion of the research findings highlights the opportunities and challenges associated with implementing TOD strategies in urban planning practice. The study identifies key factors that contribute to the success of TOD projects, including the integration of transit infrastructure, mixed land uses, pedestrian-friendly design, and community engagement. It also addresses the limitations and constraints that may hinder the full realization of TOD benefits in different urban contexts. In conclusion, this thesis emphasizes the significance of transit-oriented development as a planning strategy to enhance urban mobility and accessibility in contemporary cities. By promoting compact, walkable, and transit-supportive environments, TOD has the potential to create more sustainable and inclusive urban spaces that prioritize public transportation and active modes of travel. The findings of this research contribute to the existing knowledge base on TOD and offer practical recommendations for policymakers, planners, and stakeholders involved in urban development initiatives.
