Abstract
Transit-oriented development (TOD) has emerged as a key strategy for sustainable urban planning, aiming to promote efficient transportation systems and create vibrant, livable communities. This thesis presents a comprehensive assessment of transit-oriented development in urban areas through a detailed case study. The case study focuses on a specific urban area to analyze the effectiveness of existing TOD strategies, identify challenges, and propose recommendations for improvement. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research, outlining the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and structure of the thesis. It also includes a definition of key terms related to transit-oriented development. Chapter 2 conducts a thorough literature review, exploring ten key areas related to transit-oriented development, including urban planning principles, transportation systems, land use patterns, economic impacts, social equity considerations, environmental sustainability, policy frameworks, case studies, best practices, and challenges.
