Abstract
Gentrification, a complex and multifaceted process, has been a subject of increasing concern in urban planning and housing studies due to its significant impact on affordable housing in urban areas. This thesis explores the implications of gentrification on the availability, accessibility, and affordability of housing for low- and moderate-income residents in urban neighborhoods. The study aims to provide a comprehensive analysis of the underlying causes, processes, and consequences of gentrification on affordable housing, as well as to propose policy recommendations to address these challenges. The research begins with an introduction to the topic, providing background information on the phenomenon of gentrification and its historical context in urban planning. The problem statement highlights the critical issues surrounding the displacement of vulnerable populations and the loss of affordable housing stock in gentrifying neighborhoods. The objectives of the study are to examine the socio-economic impacts of gentrification on housing affordability, identify the key drivers of gentrification, and assess the effectiveness of current housing policies in mitigating the negative effects of gentrification.
