Gentrification, a process of urban transformation characterized by the influx of wealthier residents into lower-income neighborhoods, has become a prevalent phenomenon in many cities worldwide. This thesis investigates the impact of gentrification on housing affordability in urban neighborhoods, focusing on the complex interplay between economic, social, and spatial factors that shape housing dynamics in gentrifying areas. Through a comprehensive review of existing literature, this study aims to provide insights into the mechanisms through which gentrification influences housing affordability and to identify potential strategies to mitigate its negative consequences. Chapter One introduces the research topic, providing background information on gentrification and its implications for housing affordability in urban contexts. The problem statement highlights the challenges faced by residents in gentrifying neighborhoods, particularly in accessing affordable housing options. The objectives of the study are outlined, including exploring the factors driving gentrification, examining its effects on housing affordability, and evaluating policy interventions to address these issues. The limitations and scope of the study are also discussed, along with the significance of the research and the structure of the thesis. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review on gentrification and housing affordability, analyzing key concepts, theories, and empirical studies related to the topic.
