Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The rapid urbanization and population growth experienced in many cities have intensified the need for effective urban planning and management strategies. One critical aspect of urban planning is the availability and accessibility of accurate land information. In response to this need, this study proposes the development of a Web-based Land Information System (LIS) tailored for urban planning and management purposes. The LIS aims to provide a user-friendly platform for accessing, analyzing, and visualizing land-related data to support decision-making processes. The project will begin with a comprehensive review of existing literature on urban planning, land information systems, and web-based applications. This review will lay the foundation for understanding the current state of the art, identifying gaps in the literature, and informing the development of the proposed system. The study will adopt a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative and qualitative research methods to gather data from relevant stakeholders. The research methodology will involve the design and implementation of the Web-based LIS, incorporating features such as interactive mapping tools, data visualization capabilities, and user-friendly interfaces. The system will be tested and evaluated using real-world data sets to assess its functionality, usability, and performance. Feedback from end-users and experts will be collected to refine the system and ensure its practicality and relevance. The findings of the study will be presented and discussed in Chapter Four, highlighting the key features, strengths, and limitations of the developed Web-based LIS. The discussion will also explore the potential implications of the system for urban planning and management practices, as well as recommendations for future research and development. The study will conclude with Chapter Five, summarizing the main findings, discussing the significance of the research, and offering insights into the broader implications of the Web-based LIS for urban sustainability and smart city initiatives. Overall, the proposed Web-based Land Information System represents a significant advancement in the field of urban planning and management, providing a valuable tool for decision-makers, planners, and other stakeholders to access and utilize land-related data effectively. By enhancing data accessibility, analysis, and visualization capabilities, the system has the potential to streamline decision-making processes, improve urban development outcomes, and contribute to more sustainable and resilient cities.
