Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The construction industry faces constant challenges in accurately estimating project costs due to the complex and dynamic nature of construction projects. Traditional cost estimation methods have limitations in providing precise and efficient cost estimates, leading to cost overruns and delays. Building Information Modeling (BIM) has emerged as a transformative technology that offers opportunities to enhance cost estimation processes in construction projects. This thesis explores the optimization of cost estimation methods through the integration of BIM technology. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research, highlighting the background of the study and the problem statement. The objectives, limitations, scope, significance of the study, and the structure of the thesis are also outlined in this chapter. Definitions of key terms related to cost estimation, BIM, and construction projects are provided to establish a common understanding. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review on cost estimation methods, BIM technology, and their integration in construction projects. The review covers ten key aspects, including traditional cost estimation techniques, the benefits of BIM in construction, challenges of cost estimation in the industry, and previous research on BIM-enabled cost estimation. Chapter Three details the research methodology employed in this study, encompassing eight key components such as research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures. The chapter outlines the steps taken to investigate the optimization of cost estimation methods using BIM, providing a clear framework for the research process. Chapter Four presents an in-depth discussion of the research findings, including the outcomes of applying BIM technology to enhance cost estimation accuracy and efficiency in construction projects. The chapter analyzes the impact of BIM on cost estimation processes, identifies best practices, and discusses potential challenges and limitations. Chapter Five concludes the thesis by summarizing the key findings, implications, and contributions of the study. Recommendations for future research and practical applications of the optimized cost estimation methods using BIM are also provided. The thesis concludes with reflections on the significance of integrating BIM into cost estimation processes and the potential benefits for the construction industry. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the body of knowledge on cost estimation in construction projects by proposing an optimized approach through the utilization of Building Information Modeling. The findings of this study have implications for practitioners, researchers, and industry stakeholders seeking to enhance cost estimation accuracy and efficiency in construction projects.
