Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The construction industry is constantly evolving, with technological advancements playing a significant role in improving efficiency and effectiveness in various processes. Building Information Modeling (BIM) has emerged as a transformative technology that offers numerous benefits to the construction industry, including improved collaboration, visualization, and project management. This thesis focuses on the implementation of BIM in Quantity Surveying practice, aiming to investigate how BIM can enhance the traditional practices of Quantity Surveyors. The research methodology adopted for this study is a case study approach, which involves in-depth analysis and evaluation of a specific project where BIM was implemented in Quantity Surveying practice. Through interviews, surveys, and data analysis, the study aims to explore the challenges, opportunities, and impacts of implementing BIM in Quantity Surveying. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of terms. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review on BIM, Quantity Surveying, and the integration of BIM in Quantity Surveying practice, highlighting key concepts, theories, and previous research findings. Chapter Three details the research methodology employed in the study, including the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, data analysis procedures, and ethical considerations. This chapter also discusses the selection criteria for the case study project and the rationale behind the chosen approach. Chapter Four presents an elaborate discussion of the findings from the case study, focusing on the challenges faced, benefits realized, and lessons learned from implementing BIM in Quantity Surveying practice. The chapter also examines the implications of these findings for the construction industry and provides recommendations for future research and practice. Finally, Chapter Five concludes the thesis by summarizing the key findings, reiterating the significance of the study, and offering suggestions for further research and practical applications. The thesis contributes to the existing body of knowledge by providing insights into the practical implications of implementing BIM in Quantity Surveying practice and offers valuable recommendations for enhancing the adoption of BIM in the construction industry.
