Abstract
Material handling is a critical aspect of operations management in public institutions as it directly affects efficiency and cost effectiveness. This research project focuses on investigating the impact of material handling cost reduction efforts in the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) in Kaduna State. The study aims to identify strategies and initiatives employed by PHCN to reduce material handling costs and assess the effectiveness of these efforts. A mixed-methods approach will be utilized, combining quantitative analysis of cost data and qualitative interviews with key stakeholders within PHCN. The study will analyze historical cost data related to material handling in PHCN, identifying trends and patterns over time. Additionally, interviews will be conducted with managers, supervisors, and frontline staff to gather insights into the strategies and practices implemented by PHCN to reduce material handling costs. The findings of this research are expected to contribute to the existing body of knowledge on material handling cost reduction in public institutions. By examining the specific case of PHCN in Kaduna, this study will provide valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with reducing material handling costs in the public sector. The research will also offer practical recommendations for improving efficiency and cost effectiveness in material handling operations within PHCN and similar organizations. Overall, this research project will shed light on the importance of effective material handling cost reduction efforts in public institutions and provide valuable insights for managers and policymakers seeking to optimize operations and reduce costs in this context.
