Abstract
The advent of e-government has revolutionized the way citizens interact with public administration, offering new opportunities for engagement and participation. This study explores the impact of e-government on citizen engagement in public administration, focusing on how digital platforms and technologies have influenced the relationship between governments and citizens. Through a comprehensive literature review, this research identifies key factors that influence citizen engagement in the context of e-government, including accessibility, transparency, accountability, and trust. The research methodology employed in this study includes a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews to gather insights from both citizens and public officials. The data collected is analyzed using statistical methods and thematic analysis to uncover patterns and trends in citizen engagement practices in e-government initiatives. The findings of this study reveal that e-government plays a crucial role in enhancing citizen engagement by providing convenient access to information, facilitating communication between citizens and government agencies, and promoting transparency and accountability in decision-making processes. However, challenges such as digital divide, data privacy concerns, and lack of trust in government institutions pose barriers to effective citizen engagement through e-government platforms. The discussion of findings delves into the implications of these results for public administration practice and policy, highlighting the need for governments to prioritize digital inclusivity, data security, and citizen trust-building efforts to maximize the benefits of e-government for citizen engagement. The study concludes with a summary of key findings, recommendations for future research, and practical implications for public administrators seeking to leverage e-government for improved citizen engagement. Overall, this thesis contributes to the growing body of knowledge on e-government and citizen engagement, shedding light on the opportunities and challenges presented by digital technologies in transforming public administration processes and fostering meaningful interactions between governments and citizens in the digital age.
