Abstract
This thesis investigates the impact of e-government on citizen engagement in public administration. As governments worldwide increasingly adopt digital technologies to deliver services and interact with citizens, understanding how these initiatives influence citizen engagement is crucial. The study explores the theoretical foundations of e-government and citizen engagement, reviews relevant literature on the subject, and presents empirical findings based on a mixed-methods approach. Chapter One provides an introduction to the topic, discussing the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance of the study, structure of the thesis, and key definitions. Chapter Two conducts a comprehensive literature review on e-government, citizen engagement, and the relationship between the two, examining ten key themes to provide a theoretical framework for the study. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology, including research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, data analysis procedures, ethical considerations, and limitations of the research process. This chapter also discusses the operationalization of key variables and the theoretical framework guiding the study. Chapter Four presents the empirical findings of the research, analyzing the impact of e-government on citizen engagement based on data collected from surveys, interviews, and case studies. The discussion includes an exploration of the factors influencing citizen engagement in e-government initiatives, the role of technology in shaping citizen-government interactions, and the challenges and opportunities for enhancing citizen engagement through digital platforms. Chapter Five provides a conclusion and summary of the thesis, highlighting the key findings, implications for public administration practice and policy, contributions to the existing literature, and recommendations for future research. The study concludes that e-government initiatives have the potential to enhance citizen engagement by providing greater transparency, accessibility, and participation in governance processes.
