Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Television plays a crucial role in educating the public on preventive measures against the spread of the coronavirus in Nigeria. The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of effective communication strategies to disseminate accurate information and educate the population on ways to protect themselves and others. This research explores how television as a mass media platform has been utilized to convey key messages about COVID-19 prevention in Nigeria. Through content analysis and audience reception studies, this research examines the various educational programs, public service announcements, and news broadcasts related to COVID-19 prevention that have been aired on Nigerian television channels. It investigates the frequency and duration of such programs, the accuracy of information presented, as well as the effectiveness of these initiatives in raising awareness and promoting behavior change among viewers. Furthermore, this study delves into the role of television in reaching diverse audiences across different regions of Nigeria, including rural and urban populations, and how cultural and linguistic factors may influence the reception of COVID-19 prevention messages. By analyzing viewer perceptions and responses to televised educational content on the coronavirus, this research aims to provide insights into the strengths and limitations of using television as a tool for public health communication in Nigeria. The findings of this research contribute to our understanding of the impact of television in educating the public on preventive measures against COVID-19 in Nigeria and offer valuable recommendations for improving communication strategies in future health crises. By identifying successful television programs and messaging tactics that resonate with audiences, policymakers and health officials can enhance their efforts to combat the spread of infectious diseases and promote health literacy among the Nigerian population. In conclusion, television serves as a powerful medium for disseminating information and raising awareness about COVID-19 prevention in Nigeria. Through targeted programming and engaging content, television has the potential to educate the public, change behaviors, and ultimately save lives during a global health crisis. This research underscores the importance of leveraging television effectively in public health campaigns and underscores the need for continued investment in media resources for health communication initiatives.
