Abstract
This thesis explores the impact of social media on mental health through a comparative analysis of different age groups. In recent years, the rise of social media platforms has significantly changed the way individuals interact and communicate with each other. This study aims to examine how these changes have influenced the mental well-being of individuals across various age groups. The research methodology includes a comprehensive literature review, quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, and statistical analysis to identify patterns and trends. Chapter One provides an introduction to the topic, background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and structure of the thesis. Chapter Two presents a detailed literature review consisting of 10 key themes related to social media and mental health, including the impact of social media on self-esteem, body image, loneliness, anxiety, depression, and overall psychological well-being. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology, including the research design, sampling techniques, data collection methods, and data analysis procedures. This chapter also discusses ethical considerations and potential limitations of the study. Chapter Four presents the findings of the research, analyzing the data collected from different age groups to identify common trends and variations in the impact of social media on mental health. The discussion highlights the key findings, implications, and recommendations for future research and practice. In conclusion, Chapter Five summarizes the key findings of the study, discusses the implications for mental health professionals, educators, policymakers, and individuals, and offers recommendations for addressing the challenges posed by social media use.
