This thesis investigates the impact of social media on mental health among adolescents and young adults through a comparative study. The proliferation of social media platforms has transformed the way individuals interact and communicate, presenting both opportunities and challenges for mental well-being. This study aims to explore how social media usage influences the mental health of adolescents and young adults, examining differences between the two age groups. The research begins with an extensive literature review that examines existing studies on the relationship between social media and mental health, highlighting the various mechanisms through which social media can impact psychological well-being. Factors such as social comparison, cyberbullying, fear of missing out (FOMO), and excessive screen time will be explored in the context of mental health outcomes. Methodologically, this study employs a mixed-methods approach to gather data from adolescents and young adults through surveys, interviews, and social media usage tracking.
