Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Antimicrobial resistance poses a significant threat to global public health, with bacterial pathogens in hospital environments being a key concern due to their potential to cause infections in vulnerable patient populations. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial resistance patterns of bacterial pathogens isolated from hospital environments, with a focus on understanding the prevalence and mechanisms of resistance. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to provide a background on antimicrobial resistance, the factors contributing to its emergence and spread, and the implications for clinical practice. The research methodology involved the collection of bacterial isolates from various hospital settings, followed by antimicrobial susceptibility testing using standardized methods. The results revealed high levels of resistance among bacterial pathogens to commonly used antibiotics, with multidrug resistance being a common phenomenon. Molecular techniques were employed to characterize the resistance mechanisms, including the presence of resistance genes and mobile genetic elements. The findings from this study have important implications for infection control practices in hospitals and the development of effective antimicrobial stewardship programs. Overall, this research contributes to the understanding of antimicrobial resistance patterns in hospital environments and highlights the urgent need for concerted efforts to combat this growing public health threat.

Thesis Overview

The project titled "Antimicrobial resistance patterns of bacterial pathogens isolated from hospital environment" aims to investigate and analyze the antimicrobial resistance patterns exhibited by bacterial pathogens commonly found in hospital environments. The emergence of antimicrobial resistance is a pressing global health concern, posing significant challenges to the effective treatment of infectious diseases. Hospitals, as high-risk settings for the transmission of bacterial pathogens, play a crucial role in the development and dissemination of antimicrobial resistance. The research will focus on identifying and characterizing bacterial pathogens isolated from various surfaces within hospital settings, such as patient rooms, medical equipment, and healthcare personnel. By analyzing the resistance profiles of these pathogens against a range of commonly used antibiotics, the study seeks to provide valuable insights into the prevalence and mechanisms of antimicrobial resistance in hospital environments. The project will employ a combination of microbiological techniques, including bacterial isolation, identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Molecular methods, such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and sequencing, may also be utilized to investigate the genetic basis of antimicrobial resistance in the isolated pathogens. Through this research, we aim to contribute to the understanding of antimicrobial resistance dynamics in hospital environments and provide data that can inform infection control practices and antibiotic stewardship efforts. Ultimately, the findings of this study have the potential to guide the development of strategies to mitigate the spread of antimicrobial resistance and improve patient outcomes in healthcare settings.
