Thesis Abstract

Abstract
The rise of antibiotic resistance has become a global health concern, prompting the search for alternative antimicrobial agents. Plant extracts have shown promising antimicrobial properties against various pathogens, making them potential candidates for the development of new antimicrobial agents. This study aimed to investigate the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts against common pathogenic bacteria, with a focus on understanding their potential as alternative treatments. The research methodology involved the collection of plant samples, extraction of bioactive compounds, and evaluation of their antimicrobial activity using various microbiological assays. A comprehensive literature review was conducted to provide a theoretical background on the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts and the mechanisms underlying their activity against pathogenic bacteria. The findings of this study revealed that plant extracts exhibited significant antimicrobial activity against a range of common pathogenic bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antimicrobial efficacy varied among different plant species and extraction methods, highlighting the importance of optimizing extraction protocols to enhance antimicrobial activity. The discussion of findings explored the potential applications of plant extracts as natural antimicrobial agents in various fields, including medicine, agriculture, and food preservation. The study also identified the limitations of using plant extracts as antimicrobial agents, such as variability in antimicrobial activity and potential toxicity at higher concentrations. In conclusion, this research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts and their potential application as alternative treatments against common pathogenic bacteria. The findings of this study underscore the importance of further research to elucidate the mechanisms of action of plant extracts and optimize their antimicrobial activity for future therapeutic use. Keywords antimicrobial properties, plant extracts, pathogenic bacteria, antibiotic resistance, alternative treatments.

Thesis Overview

The project titled "Investigating the antimicrobial properties of plant extracts against common pathogenic bacteria" aims to explore the potential of plant extracts in combating pathogenic bacteria. Pathogenic bacteria are a significant public health concern due to their role in causing various infectious diseases. The emergence of antibiotic resistance has further highlighted the need for alternative antimicrobial agents, making plant extracts an attractive area of study. This research will focus on identifying plant extracts with potent antimicrobial properties against common pathogenic bacteria. By investigating the efficacy of various plant extracts, this study seeks to contribute to the development of novel antimicrobial agents that can help address the growing threat of antibiotic resistance. The project will involve the collection of plant samples from diverse sources, followed by extraction and isolation of bioactive compounds. These plant extracts will then be tested against a panel of common pathogenic bacteria using standardized antimicrobial assays. The results obtained will be analyzed to determine the antimicrobial activity of the plant extracts and identify potential candidates for further investigation. Furthermore, this research will explore the mechanisms of action underlying the antimicrobial properties of the identified plant extracts. Understanding how these plant compounds exert their antimicrobial effects can provide valuable insights for the development of new therapeutic strategies against pathogenic bacteria. Overall, this project seeks to contribute to the field of microbiology by shedding light on the antimicrobial potential of plant extracts. By elucidating the antimicrobial properties of these natural compounds, this research aims to pave the way for the development of alternative antimicrobial agents that can help combat pathogenic bacteria and mitigate the threat of antibiotic resistance.
