Thesis Abstract

Abstract
This thesis presents an in-depth investigation into the antimicrobial properties of natural plant extracts against common human pathogens. In recent years, there has been a growing interest in exploring alternative sources of antimicrobial agents due to the emergence of antibiotic resistance. Natural plant extracts have been recognized for their potential antimicrobial properties, making them promising candidates for combating infectious diseases. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of selected natural plant extracts against a panel of common human pathogens, including bacteria and fungi. The research methodology involved the extraction of bioactive compounds from various plant sources using different extraction techniques. The antimicrobial activity of these extracts was then assessed through a series of in vitro experiments, including agar diffusion assays and determination of minimum inhibitory concentrations. The study also investigated the potential mechanisms of action of the plant extracts against the target pathogens. The results of the study revealed varying degrees of antimicrobial activity among the tested plant extracts. Some extracts exhibited potent antimicrobial effects against a broad spectrum of pathogens, while others showed limited efficacy. Furthermore, the findings suggested that the antimicrobial properties of the plant extracts were attributed to the presence of bioactive compounds such as phenols, flavonoids, and alkaloids. The discussion of the findings delves into the implications of these results in the context of developing novel antimicrobial agents from natural sources. The study highlights the importance of further research to elucidate the specific mechanisms of action of plant extracts and optimize their antimicrobial activity. Additionally, the study emphasizes the potential of natural plant extracts as sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives to conventional antibiotics. In conclusion, this thesis contributes to the growing body of knowledge on the antimicrobial properties of natural plant extracts. The findings underscore the potential of plant-derived compounds as valuable resources for combating infectious diseases and addressing the global challenge of antibiotic resistance. Future research in this field holds promise for the development of new antimicrobial agents with enhanced efficacy and safety profiles.
