Abstract
The rise of multi-drug resistant bacteria poses a significant challenge to modern medicine, necessitating the search for alternative antimicrobial agents. Plant extracts have long been recognized for their potential antimicrobial properties. This study aimed to investigate the antibacterial properties of plant extracts against multi-drug resistant bacteria. The research involved the screening of various plant extracts for their antibacterial activity using standard microbiological methods. The study also explored the mechanisms of action of these plant extracts against multi-drug resistant bacteria. Chapter 1 provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of terms. Chapter 2 is a comprehensive literature review that explores existing knowledge on plant extracts and their antibacterial properties, as well as the mechanisms of antibiotic resistance in bacteria. Chapter 3 details the research methodology, including the selection and preparation of plant extracts, bacterial strains used, antimicrobial susceptibility testing methods, and data analysis techniques. The chapter also describes the experimental design and statistical analysis used in the study. In Chapter 4, the findings of the research are discussed in detail. The antibacterial activity of various plant extracts against multi-drug resistant bacteria is presented, along with the mechanisms of action identified through further investigations.
