Abstract
Information literacy is a crucial skill for students in their academic pursuits, enabling them to effectively locate, evaluate, and use information resources. This thesis investigates the impact of information literacy instruction on student research skills in academic libraries. The study explores the current practices of information literacy instruction in academic libraries, assesses the effectiveness of these programs, and examines the extent to which they improve student research skills. Chapter One provides an introduction to the study, outlining the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of terms. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review covering ten key areas related to information literacy instruction and student research skills. The review synthesizes existing research, identifies gaps in the literature, and provides a theoretical framework for the study. Chapter Three details the research methodology employed in this study, including the research design, sampling techniques, data collection methods, and data analysis procedures. It also discusses ethical considerations and limitations of the research process. The chapter outlines how data was collected and analyzed to evaluate the impact of information literacy instruction on student research skills. In Chapter Four, the findings of the study are presented and discussed in detail.
