Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Intermittent fasting (IF) has gained significant attention in recent years as a potential strategy for weight loss and improving metabolic health. This thesis explores the effects of intermittent fasting on weight loss and metabolic health in overweight adults. The research design consisted of a randomized controlled trial involving overweight adult participants who were assigned to either an intermittent fasting group or a control group. Various parameters including weight, body composition, metabolic markers, and subjective assessments of well-being were measured at baseline and at regular intervals throughout the intervention period. The findings of the study revealed that participants in the intermittent fasting group experienced significant weight loss compared to the control group. Moreover, improvements in metabolic health markers such as blood glucose levels, insulin sensitivity, and lipid profiles were observed in the intermittent fasting group. Subjective assessments indicated high levels of satisfaction and adherence to the intermittent fasting regimen among participants. The results of this study support the potential benefits of intermittent fasting as a viable strategy for weight loss and improving metabolic health in overweight adults. However, further research is needed to explore the long-term effects of intermittent fasting on weight maintenance and sustainability of metabolic improvements. This thesis contributes to the growing body of literature on intermittent fasting and provides valuable insights for healthcare professionals and individuals seeking effective strategies for weight management and metabolic health improvement.

Thesis Overview

The research project titled "Effect of Intermittent Fasting on Weight Loss and Metabolic Health in Overweight Adults" aims to investigate the impact of intermittent fasting on weight loss and metabolic health in individuals who are overweight. This study is motivated by the growing interest in alternative dietary approaches to managing weight and improving metabolic markers, particularly in the context of the rising prevalence of obesity and related health conditions. The project will begin with a comprehensive review of existing literature on intermittent fasting, weight management, and metabolic health. This literature review will provide a theoretical framework for the study by examining the mechanisms through which intermittent fasting may influence weight loss and metabolic parameters such as insulin sensitivity, lipid profile, and inflammatory markers. The research methodology will involve recruiting a sample of overweight adults who will be randomly assigned to either an intermittent fasting group or a control group following a standard dietary regimen. Participants in the intermittent fasting group will be guided on the implementation of various intermittent fasting protocols, such as time-restricted feeding or alternate-day fasting, while the control group will maintain their usual dietary habits. Data collection will include measurements of body weight, body composition, metabolic markers, and subjective assessments of hunger, satiety, and adherence to the fasting regimen. These measurements will be taken at baseline, periodically throughout the intervention period, and at the end of the study to evaluate changes in weight and metabolic health parameters. The analysis of the data will involve comparing outcomes between the intermittent fasting group and the control group to assess the effects of intermittent fasting on weight loss and metabolic health. Statistical methods such as t-tests, ANOVA, and regression analysis will be employed to determine the significance of any observed differences and associations. The discussion of findings will interpret the results in the context of existing literature and theoretical frameworks, highlighting the implications of the study outcomes for overweight individuals seeking to manage their weight and improve their metabolic health. Potential limitations of the study, such as sample size constraints, participant adherence, and generalizability of findings, will also be addressed. In conclusion, this research project on the effect of intermittent fasting on weight loss and metabolic health in overweight adults aims to contribute valuable insights into the utility of intermittent fasting as a dietary strategy for promoting weight management and metabolic well-being in this population. The findings of this study have the potential to inform clinical practice and public health recommendations regarding the use of intermittent fasting as a viable approach to addressing the challenges of overweight and associated metabolic dysregulation.
