Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Intermittent fasting (IF) has gained popularity as a dietary approach for weight management and improving metabolic health. This study aimed to investigate the effects of intermittent fasting on weight loss and metabolic health in overweight individuals. The research design involved a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative measurements of weight, body composition, and metabolic parameters with qualitative assessments of dietary adherence and lifestyle changes. Chapter 1 provides the introduction to the study, background information on intermittent fasting, the problem statement, research objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definitions of key terms. Chapter 2 presents a comprehensive literature review covering ten key aspects related to intermittent fasting, weight loss, and metabolic health. Chapter 3 details the research methodology, including study design, participant recruitment, data collection methods, measurements, statistical analysis, and ethical considerations. The study population consisted of overweight individuals aged 18-60 years with no significant medical conditions. Participants were assigned to either an intermittent fasting group or a control group following a standard diet. Anthropometric measurements, blood tests, and dietary assessments were conducted at baseline and after the intervention period. Chapter 4 presents a detailed discussion of the findings, including changes in body weight, body composition, metabolic parameters such as blood glucose and lipid profiles, and adherence to the intermittent fasting protocol. The results indicate that intermittent fasting led to significant weight loss and improvements in metabolic health markers compared to the control group. Qualitative data revealed challenges and motivations for adherence to the fasting regimen. In Chapter 5, the conclusion and summary of the project thesis are provided, highlighting the key findings, implications for practice, and recommendations for future research. This study contributes to the growing body of evidence supporting the effectiveness of intermittent fasting for weight loss and metabolic health improvement in overweight individuals. Overall, the findings suggest that intermittent fasting can be a valuable dietary strategy for individuals looking to manage their weight and improve metabolic health. Further research is needed to explore the long-term effects and optimal protocols for implementing intermittent fasting in clinical practice.
