Thesis Abstract

Abstract
Antioxidant vitamins play a crucial role in maintaining health and preventing various diseases by scavenging free radicals and reducing oxidative stress. Vitamin C, vitamin E, and beta-carotene are well-known antioxidant vitamins that have been extensively studied for their beneficial effects on human health. These vitamins act as potent antioxidants by neutralizing reactive oxygen species and protecting cells from oxidative damage. Research has shown that a diet rich in antioxidant vitamins can help reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and neurodegenerative disorders. Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid, is a water-soluble antioxidant that plays a key role in immune function, collagen synthesis, and wound healing. Vitamin E, a fat-soluble antioxidant, protects cell membranes from oxidative damage and may help lower the risk of heart disease and cancer. Beta-carotene, a precursor to vitamin A, has been associated with a reduced risk of certain types of cancer and age-related macular degeneration. Despite the potential health benefits of antioxidant vitamins, excessive supplementation may have adverse effects, particularly in smokers or individuals with certain health conditions. Recent studies have suggested that high doses of antioxidant vitamins, especially beta-carotene, may increase the risk of certain cancers and cardiovascular events. Therefore, it is important to obtain these vitamins through a balanced diet rather than relying on supplements. In conclusion, antioxidant vitamins play a critical role in maintaining health and protecting against various diseases by combating oxidative stress. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, nuts, and seeds can provide an adequate amount of antioxidant vitamins to support overall health. However, it is essential to be cautious with antioxidant supplements, as excessive intake may have harmful effects. Further research is needed to better understand the optimal levels of antioxidant vitamins required for disease prevention and to identify individuals who may benefit from supplementation.Overall, a balanced approach to obtaining antioxidant vitamins through a healthy diet is crucial for maintaining optimal health and reducing the risk of chronic diseases.
