Abstract
Colonialism has left a lasting impact on the indigenous cultures of various countries, and this study examines the repercussions of colonial rule on the traditional cultures of Nigeria and India. Through a comparative lens, this research delves into the historical legacies of colonialism, exploring how British colonization in India and Nigeria has influenced the indigenous cultures of these nations. The study employs a multidisciplinary approach, drawing on insights from history, anthropology, and cultural studies to analyze the complex dynamics of cultural transformation and preservation in the post-colonial era. The introductory chapter sets the stage for the research by providing a comprehensive overview of the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of terms. This chapter establishes the context for the comparative study of colonial impact on indigenous cultures in Nigeria and India. Chapter two presents an extensive literature review that critically examines existing scholarship on the effects of colonialism on indigenous cultures. The review encompasses ten key themes, including cultural imperialism, resistance strategies, cultural hybridity, identity formation, language loss, and the role of education in cultural preservation. By synthesizing diverse perspectives, this chapter offers a nuanced understanding of the complexities surrounding the colonial legacy in Nigeria and India. Chapter three outlines the research methodology employed in this study, detailing the research design, data collection methods, sample selection criteria, and data analysis techniques.
