Abstract
Colonialism has had a profound impact on indigenous cultures across the globe, particularly in Africa where European powers such as Britain and France established colonies. This thesis examines the impact of colonialism on indigenous cultures in British and French colonies in Africa, with a comparative approach to understand the similarities and differences in the colonial policies and their effects on the indigenous populations. The study utilizes a combination of historical analysis, literature review, and qualitative research methods to explore the complex dynamics of colonialism and its lasting effects on indigenous cultures. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review that examines existing scholarship on colonialism, indigenous cultures, and the impact of European colonization in Africa. This chapter aims to provide a theoretical framework for understanding the complexities of colonialism and its effects on indigenous cultures. Chapter Three outlines the research methodology employed in this study, including the research design, data collection methods, data analysis techniques, and ethical considerations. The chapter also discusses the selection criteria for case studies within British and French colonies in Africa.
