Colonialism has had far-reaching effects on indigenous cultures in Africa, shaping societies and influencing identity constructions to this day. This thesis presents a comparative study of the impact of British and French colonial rule on indigenous cultures in Africa. Through a comprehensive analysis of historical records, cultural artifacts, and scholarly works, this research explores the multifaceted dimensions of colonialism and its long-lasting consequences on African societies. Chapter One sets the stage by providing an introduction to the research topic, discussing the background of the study, stating the problem statement, outlining the objectives, discussing the limitations and scope of the study, highlighting the significance of the research, presenting the structure of the thesis, and defining key terms for clarity. Chapter Two delves into a thorough literature review, analyzing existing scholarship on colonialism, indigenous cultures in Africa, British and French colonial practices, and the impact of colonialism on identity, language, religion, and socio-political structures in African societies.
