**Abstract
** Colonialism has had a profound and lasting impact on the social structures of West Africa. This thesis explores the legacy of colonial rule on contemporary society in the region, focusing on how colonial policies and practices have shaped the social, cultural, and political landscape of West Africa. Through a comprehensive analysis of historical documents, scholarly research, and empirical data, this study seeks to uncover the ways in which colonialism has influenced and continues to influence social structures in West Africa. The introductory chapter provides an overview of the research topic, outlining the background of the study, stating the problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and defining key terms. Chapter two consists of a detailed literature review that examines existing studies and theories related to the impact of colonialism on social structures in West Africa. This chapter highlights key themes and trends in the literature, providing a theoretical framework for the study. Chapter three outlines the research methodology employed in this study, including the research design, data collection methods, sampling techniques, and data analysis procedures.
