Through a comprehensive analysis of historical and anthropological data, this research aims to highlight the complexities of the colonial encounter and its aftermath on indigenous communities. Chapter one provides an introduction to the study, setting the context for the research by outlining the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and key definitions. The chapter lays the foundation for the subsequent exploration of colonial legacies in Africa.
