Abstract
This thesis investigates the impact of climate change on coastal erosion through a case study of a vulnerable coastal region. Coastal erosion is a critical issue exacerbated by climate change, posing significant threats to coastal communities, ecosystems, and infrastructure. The study focuses on understanding the dynamics of coastal erosion in the context of climate change, assessing the vulnerabilities of the selected coastal region, and proposing mitigation and adaptation strategies. The research begins with an exploration of the introduction, providing an overview of the importance of the study, the background information on coastal erosion and climate change, and the significance of the research. The problem statement highlights the urgency of addressing coastal erosion in the face of climate change, emphasizing the need for sustainable solutions to protect coastal areas. The objectives of the study are outlined to guide the research process towards achieving specific goals, including identifying key factors contributing to coastal erosion and evaluating the effectiveness of adaptation measures. Through a comprehensive literature review in Chapter Two, the study examines existing research on coastal erosion, climate change impacts, and adaptation strategies. The review synthesizes knowledge from various sources to provide a theoretical foundation for the research, exploring key concepts, theories, and methodologies relevant to the study. Ten critical themes emerge from the literature review, informing the analysis of coastal erosion dynamics and climate change impacts in the selected region. Chapter Three delves into the research methodology, detailing the research design, data collection methods, and analytical techniques employed in the study. The chapter outlines the steps taken to collect and analyze data, including field surveys, remote sensing, and GIS mapping. It also discusses the limitations and challenges faced during the research process, highlighting the efforts to ensure the validity and reliability of the findings. In Chapter Four, the study presents a detailed discussion of the findings, analyzing the impact of climate change on coastal erosion in the selected region. The findings reveal the extent of coastal erosion, identifying vulnerable areas and key factors driving erosion processes. The chapter also evaluates the effectiveness of existing adaptation measures and proposes new strategies to mitigate the impacts of climate change on coastal communities. Finally, Chapter Five offers a conclusion and summary of the project thesis, highlighting the key findings, implications, and recommendations for future research and policy development.
