Abstract
Climate change poses a significant threat to coastal regions worldwide, leading to increased risks of erosion and coastal degradation. This thesis aims to assess the impact of climate change on coastal erosion in a specific region, focusing on understanding the underlying processes, evaluating the extent of coastal erosion, and proposing mitigation strategies. The study area selected for this research is the XYZ coastal region, known for its vulnerability to sea-level rise and extreme weather events. The research begins with a comprehensive review of the existing literature on climate change, coastal erosion, and related mitigation measures. Through this review, the study identifies key factors contributing to coastal erosion, such as sea-level rise, storm surges, and human activities. The literature review also highlights the importance of sustainable coastal management practices to address these challenges effectively. Methodologically, a combination of remote sensing analysis, field surveys, and stakeholder consultations will be employed to collect data on coastal erosion trends, shoreline changes, and community perceptions. The research methodology section outlines the specific data collection techniques, sampling strategies, and analytical tools to be used in the study. By integrating both quantitative and qualitative approaches, the research aims to provide a holistic understanding of the complex interactions between climate change and coastal erosion. The findings from the data analysis will be presented and discussed in Chapter Four, focusing on the observed patterns of coastal erosion, the drivers behind these changes, and the potential impacts on local communities and ecosystems.
