The advent of social media platforms has revolutionized communication and connectivity, providing individuals with new avenues to connect, share information, and express themselves. However, the pervasive use of social media has raised concerns about its potential impact on mental health. This thesis explores the complex relationship between social media usage and mental well-being from a General Studies perspective. The study begins with an introduction that outlines the background of the research, identifies the problem statement, states the objectives, discusses the limitations and scope of the study, highlights the significance of the research, and provides an overview of the thesis structure. Chapter two presents a comprehensive literature review that examines existing research on the impact of social media on mental health. The review covers ten key themes, including the influence of social media on self-esteem, body image, relationships, and overall psychological well-being. Chapter three details the research methodology employed in this study.
