Abstract
This thesis examines the impact of social media on mental health and well-being in young adults. In recent years, the pervasive use of social media platforms has raised concerns about their potential effects on mental health, particularly among the younger population. The purpose of this study is to explore the various ways in which social media usage influences the mental health and overall well-being of young adults. The introductory chapter provides an overview of the study, including the background, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, and structure of the thesis. It also defines key terms relevant to the topic to ensure clarity and understanding. Chapter two presents a comprehensive literature review that examines existing research on the relationship between social media and mental health in young adults. The review covers ten key areas, including the impact of social media on self-esteem, body image, relationships, anxiety, depression, and overall psychological well-being. Chapter three outlines the research methodology employed in this study.
