The rapid evolution of social media platforms has revolutionized the way individuals communicate, share information, and interact with others. While the benefits of social media are evident, concerns have arisen about its impact on mental health. This thesis explores the intricate relationship between social media usage and mental health from a General Studies perspective. The study delves into the background of the issue, elucidates the problem statement, outlines the objectives, discusses the limitations and scope of the study, highlights the significance of the research, and provides an overview of the thesis structure in Chapter 1. Chapter 2 presents a comprehensive literature review consisting of ten key themes related to the impact of social media on mental health. These themes include the influence of social media on self-esteem, body image, anxiety, depression, loneliness, cyberbullying, addiction, sleep patterns, interpersonal relationships, and overall well-being. The review synthesizes existing research findings and theoretical frameworks to provide a holistic understanding of the topic. In Chapter 3, the research methodology is detailed, encompassing various components such as research design, sampling techniques, data collection methods, data analysis procedures, ethical considerations, and limitations of the methodology. The chapter provides a robust framework for investigating the research questions and hypotheses proposed in the study.
