Abstract
Sustainable waste management practices in urban areas have become a critical global issue due to the increasing population, rapid urbanization, and environmental concerns. This thesis presents an in-depth assessment of sustainable waste management practices in urban areas, focusing on the challenges, opportunities, and recommendations for improvement. The study utilized a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis and qualitative case studies to provide a comprehensive understanding of the current state of waste management in urban areas. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, presenting the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure of the thesis, and definition of key terms. Chapter Two offers a detailed literature review, exploring ten key aspects related to sustainable waste management practices in urban areas, including waste generation trends, recycling initiatives, waste-to-energy technologies, policy frameworks, and community engagement strategies.
