This thesis presents an in-depth assessment of sustainable waste management practices in urban areas, aiming to explore effective strategies for mitigating environmental impacts, promoting resource recovery, and enhancing overall waste management efficiency. The study focuses on analyzing current waste management practices, identifying key challenges, and proposing innovative solutions to achieve sustainable waste management in urban settings. Chapter One provides an introduction to the research topic, outlining the background of the study, problem statement, objectives, limitations, scope, significance, structure, and definition of key terms. The need for sustainable waste management practices in urban areas is highlighted, emphasizing the importance of addressing environmental concerns and promoting a circular economy approach to waste management. Chapter Two presents a comprehensive literature review, examining existing studies, reports, and initiatives related to sustainable waste management in urban areas. Key themes explored include waste generation trends, waste composition analysis, waste collection and transportation methods, recycling and recovery technologies, waste-to-energy processes, and policy frameworks governing waste management practices.
