Abstract
This thesis investigates the effectiveness of waste management strategies in urban areas to promote environmental sustainability. The increasing urbanization and population growth have led to intensified waste generation, posing significant challenges to environmental health and sustainability. The study aims to assess current waste management practices and strategies in urban areas, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and propose recommendations for enhancing their effectiveness in promoting environmental sustainability. The research methodology involves a comprehensive literature review to examine existing waste management strategies, policies, and practices in urban areas globally. The study also includes a detailed analysis of case studies to provide insights into successful waste management initiatives and identify key factors contributing to their effectiveness. Additionally, primary data will be collected through surveys and interviews with stakeholders involved in waste management to gain practical perspectives on the challenges and opportunities in implementing sustainable waste management strategies. The findings reveal various waste management strategies employed in urban areas, including waste segregation, recycling programs, composting, and waste-to-energy initiatives. The analysis highlights the importance of community engagement, technological innovation, and policy support in enhancing the effectiveness of waste management practices.
