Abstract
The sustainable management of waste in urban areas has become a critical issue due to the increasing population, rapid urbanization, and growing environmental concerns. This thesis presents an assessment of sustainable waste management practices in urban areas, focusing on strategies to minimize waste generation, promote recycling and reuse, and ensure proper disposal of waste. The study aims to investigate the current waste management practices in urban areas, identify challenges and opportunities for improvement, and propose recommendations for a more sustainable approach. The research methodology employed a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data analysis and qualitative interviews with key stakeholders in the waste management sector. The study reviewed existing literature on waste management practices, regulations, and policies, both locally and internationally, to provide a comprehensive understanding of the subject matter. The findings of the study revealed several key issues in current waste management practices in urban areas, including inadequate infrastructure, lack of public awareness, insufficient funding, and limited enforcement of waste management regulations.
